Amazing Space

Something a little different here - employing a bit of honest to goodness drawing skills, we were going for a live drawn, infomercial feel for this promo. There were various difficulties to overcome for Amazing Space. I'm sure there are many ways of executing and filming this kind of thing, all with their own pros and cons. The method we chose involved making a preparatory sketch of the whole layout, which I kept to hand when drawing each individual scene live on a white board, whilst a stills camera was secured directly above, shooting a frame every second. I then composited each scne together in After Effects and added a few textures to the products.

The main issues we had, involved my unsightly red hands - pale arms combo and the question of how to comp animated objects into the scene, under my hands. Flat, even lighting was also something of a challenge and the resulting difficult 'key' of my hand has resulted in a slightly murky colour grade which can't be balanced without a lot of rotoscoping we simply don't have time to do.

Still - Fun for me to spend a day drawing.

An Audience With...

A quick intro animation before a new QVC show featuring a live studio audience. We were going for a fun, daytime TV, quirky approach. The last time I watched daytime TV was when I was ten years old, off school with chickenpox. Had a great time.

The Big Makeover

Whilst much of the action took place live onstage, a few elements such as logos, the sun and moon, Zumba light board and QVC/Big Makeover safety curtain needed adding in post.
